Rectorseal- Overview

RectorSeal was founded in 1937 as a manufacturer of specialty chemical sealants, seeing initial success in the 1950s in the plumbing space with their RectorSeal No. 5 tread sealant. In 1991, they acquired Metacaulk to expand their reach into the Passive Fire Protection market. They invested in their own fire test lab in 1995 to facilitate their testing needs for ASTM E814/UL1179 and ASTM E1966/UL2079. Rectorseal's parent company is CSW Industrial Inc.CSW Industrial also owns Blaco, a manufacturer of expansion joint systems and other construction materials.

Advantages: 

  • Diverse portfolio of products across the Plumbing, Firestop, Mechanical/HVAC, and Electrical Markets

Disadvantages:

  • ​​​​​​​Company expansion via acquisition not internal drive or innovation
  • Expanding into new markets by acquiring other companies/brands not through their own direct efforts.
  • Stitching together multiple diverse companies/brands leads to internal conflict between formerly independent organizations
  • Rectorseal/Metacaulk is considered a minor player in the firestop space.
  • Not typically viewed as serious of a manufacturer compared to STI, 3M, and HILTI
