OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard was revised to bring the United States into conformance with the Global Harmonized Standard of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). Major changes to OSHA¹s Hazard Communication Standard that affect firestop products include new requirements for labeling and a new format for Safety Data Sheets. The labels must now include signal words, pictograms, hazard statements, and precautionary statements for each hazard class and category. The Safety Data Sheet format has 16 specific sections to ensure consistency.
Effective June 1, 2016, OSHA required all employers to comply with the new standard. STI’s website now includes all the revised Safety Data Sheets and all product labels now conform to OSHA and GHS requirements. Should any questions arise regarding the new OSHA requirements, please contact our Technical Service Group.
